Deirdre Murphy

is an award-winning artist in the Philadelphia area.

Her artwork is rooted in the theme of birds, and she explores the patterns and energy of bird flocks in dynamic and interesting ways. When her “Sky Paintings” series, the culmination of a career-long reflection on birds, was selected for a year-long installation at the Philadelphia International Airport, Deirdre wanted to capitalize on this expanded audience for her work by trying to get some press coverage.

PRESS PACKETS!
STORY PITCHES!

This project involved the creation of a professional press packet and story pitches to a wide range of national and local reporters. In the end, the focused press outreach led to multiple news articles, including a feature in the Penn Gazette, and two TV interviews. It also brought new opportunities for commissions and painting installations.

This was a unique press project because it spanned a number of different potential outlets and publications, including fine art, travel and local news. We had an initial list of reporters we targeted and met frequently to gauge reactions and fine tune our list.

Woo Hoo!

The breakthrough for the project really came based on a line in the press release for the “Sky Paintings” installation, which mentioned that Deirdre spent time at Hawk Mountain near Reading, PA as part of her working process.

Exposure

The local paper did a story on how Hawk Mountain informed her work, and from there, coverage started to snowball, getting Deirdre great exposure across a wide range of publications.

Success

“The press outreach project they managed led to some great press placements – three news articles, a TV interview, a cool spread in the Penn Gazette, and an interview with Jim Cotter on Articulate with WHYY. It was an invaluable experience, and I was thrilled with the outcome!”
